Geolocational Limit
This feature is only able to receive text messages from US based numbers.
Where to Get SMS to Email
SMS or text message notifications can be setup on the SIPTrunk.com website with the registered DIDs listed on the account.
Basic SMS to Ticket
This is possible by forwarding the SMS messages to the email connector address for your ticket system. Make sure to also save the inbound email address that the customer sent their SMS based message from in order to correctly tag tickets.
Additionally, if you are utilizing Teams and wish for SMS to be directed to a specific Teams channel, the associated email with the Teams channel can be used to have SMS messages sent to.
If you would like to arrange SMS messages to go to a Softphone Chat, please refer to our SMS to Chat Feature article.
How to Enable SMS
When should I fill out the 10DLC Registration form?
The 10DLC Registration form can be submitted as soon as the port requests containing the DIDs that need SMS enabled are submitted.
- Reach out to billing@siptrunk.com and request your numbers be SMS enabled and that you need a copy of the 10DLC form.
- For assistance on filling out the above forms, please see the SIPTrunk FAQ sheet.
- Once the form has been completed successfully and all checks have been met, SIPTrunk.com will activate the SMS on your number.
- Once SMS is activated, log into your SIPTrunk.com account.
- Go to My Account.
- Select the SMS tab.
- Scroll down to the SMS Enabled Numbers section.
- All DIDs that are eligible to have SMS enabled and provided on the JotForm should be listed here, indicating SMS to Email has been enabled.
- For each SMS Enabled DID, add the email address where the SMS messages should be delivered.
What if my DID is not eligible to have SMS enabled?
The most likely scenario is that the DID is potentially a demo DID ordered through your SIPTrunk.com account prior to your number port. Demo DIDs are not able to have SMS enabled. The easiest solution is ordering new standard DIDs to replace these.
If this is not the case, a bvoip team member can reach out to SIPTrunk.com Support and identify exactly why a DID cannot have SMS enabled.
SMS to Extension Emails
If it is planned to have individual numbers for SMS-enabled extensions, then the extension-based email addresses will need to be added individually to each DID for SMS to be properly enabled.
Once enabled, please reference our Using the SMS to Email Feature article.
